A meeting of the General Assembly of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities took place in the city of Marica (Brazil). More than 500 mayors, deputy mayors, and leaders of municipal associations from 24 countries attended the event: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Ethiopia, among others.
The General Assembly of the Association approved the theses to be submitted to the BRICS Summit on behalf of cities. They state that cities and municipalities are centres of innovative public governance, places where breakthrough solutions are created and where international agendas are transformed into concrete actions. The document also talks about creating direct international investment networks for local governments. These points will be presented at the BRICS Summit in July and may become part of the final Summit Declaration.
UNACLA President, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin was elected Honorary Chairman of the BRICS+ Association of Cities and Municipalities. Mayor of Marica (Brazil) Washington Quaqua was appointed the new Chairman of the Association.
